Introducing the Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender is an iconic off-roader that changed the world and helped explore previously undiscovered lands and it has now been reimagined for the 21st Century.
Three body designs are available, the 90, 110 and 130, with up to six seats in the 90, five, six or seven seats in the 110 and eight seats in the 130. Furthermore, four Accessory Packs (Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban) are available to personalise the Defender to suit individual preferences. There is also the option of a commercial hard top model and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, badged the P400e, too.
After enduring rigorous tests in the Borana reserve in Kenya, the Defender has faced a plethora of challenges and extreme terrains to ensure it can handle the harshest environments on Earth and continue to be the 4x4 of choice for explorers, humanitarian agencies and adventurous families across the world.
The Defender is instantly recognisable with its distinctive silhouette, side-hinged rear tailgate, and an externally mounted spare wheel on the rear of the practical 4x4.
A folding fabric roof can be added as an optional feature on some models to provide an open-top feel and allow passengers to stand up whilst parked to provide the full safari experience.
Retaining its character, the Defender is as tough as it looks. Built as a durable vehicle that is capable of tackling the most challenging off-road tracks, whilst being a safe and comfortable choice for long journeys and adventures with the whole family.
Whether you need to tow a caravan, a horse trailer or even a cattle box; the new Defender has an impressive towing capacity of 3,500kg.
All three versions comprising of the 90, 110 and 130 are super versatile and can be completely personalised according to your preference. Whatever layout you choose, the load space capacity provides sufficient space for all your necessities.
As with the exterior, the Defender's interior has been designed with an emphasis on simplicity and practicality, whilst including user-friendly, innovative technology.
Despite being a durable and practical vehicle, no compromise has been made on the innovative and advanced technology in the Defender. Featuring Jaguar Land Rover's new Pivi Pro infotainment system, ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror and ClearSight Ground View as well as plenty of safety technology as standard including Lane Keep Assist, 3D Surround Camera and Emergency Braking. Furthermore, the Defender will receive electronic updates through Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) technology, abolishing the need to visit Land Rover retailers for updates. Connectivity is enhanced even further thanks to Amazon Alexa voice-control.
Ensuring suitability for daily adventures, the Defender features durable rubberised flooring and a brush or wipe clean interior. Additionally, an optional central front 'jump' seat can be included, thanks to the dash-mounted gear shifter, providing three-abreast seating across the front.
With the ability to tackle off-road terrain as effectively as the hustle and bustle of city streets, the new Defender is a rewarding drive and is the perfect all-rounder.
There are petrol and diesel engines available as well as the P400e plug-in hybrid model. The six-cylinder diesel engines and the P400 petrol engine utilise mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) technology, which harvests and stores energy which would usually be lost when braking. This energy is then redeployed to assist the engine with accelerating; ultimately increasing efficiency, improving fuel economy, and boosting performance.
A potent V8 supercharged engine, which produces 518bhp and can accelerate the vehicle to 100km/h from standstill in just 4.9 seconds, completes the Defender range.
All versions have a have a maximum wading depth of 900mm which is supported by a new Wade programme in the Terrain Response 2 system: ensuring complete confidence when confronting deep water.
Staying true to the values of toughness, practicality and ultimate off-road capability, the latest generation Defender is more than worthy of the legendary nameplate. As a brand, Land Rover have worked tirelessly to ensure that the Defender meets the needs of the people who depend on it for transport in the most inhospitable environments.
As well all this, it has been brought in line with modern expectations in terms of comfort and technology. For more information or to book a test drive, contact us here at Johnson & Perrott, Bishopstown. The home of Land Rover in Cork.
