Introducing the All-New Kia Niro EV
As an all-electric version of the already eco-friendly Niro SUV, the All-New Kia Niro EV offers an unrivalled emissions-free driving range as well as impressive performance. A key part of Kia's push towards a full line-up of environmentally friendly vehicles, the All-New Niro EV is ready for today and tomorrow, sacrificing nothing in the name of efficiency.
Differentiated from the hybrid models by its unique design features and two-tone closed grille, the Niro EV retains the practicality of the HEV and PHEV variants and capitalises on the sound proofing and padding to ensure a near-silent driving experience.
With its premium-effect recycled cabin materials, the All-New Niro sets a sustainability benchmark for the future of the competitive SUV segment, especially when paired with the intuitive technology and ultra-efficient powertrain that's present in the Niro EV.
Following the same design language as other new Kia models, the all-new Niro takes inspiration from nature and blends it with a futuristic outlook. A prime example of this is the brand's 'tiger face', which extends from the bonnet and through to the front wings.
The crossover appearance is emphasised by a two-tone body, while a water-based paint that's free from harmful chemicals and isomers is used on the door panels to reduce environmental impact.
Inside, the all-new Niro offers a generous amount of space for passengers in both the front and back to enjoy. The seats now recruit a lightweight mechanism, which translates to more comfort and space inside.
Complementing the futuristic interior design are a host of innovative technologies, one of which is the newly introduced 'Greenzone Drive Mode'.
In essence, it'll automatically transfer the hybrid drivetrains into an all-electric drive mode where required. Using the onboard satellite navigation, it'll do this when you're in a green zone, which includes residential areas, or if you're near a school or hospital.
It'll even recognise your favourite places, including your home or place of work, and register that as a green zone.
The cabin follows a similar eco-friendly theme, with the headlining having been made using recycled wallpaper and the seats from Bio PU with Tencel from eucalyptus leaves. Finishing the irregular, yet aesthetically pleasing interior design is ambient mood lighting.
Energy efficiency is optimised, and aerodynamic drag is minimised due to a drag coefficient of just 0.29, allowing the Niro EV to travel up to 423km off of a single charge.
However, efficiency isn't the Niro EV's one trick. The 64.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery can produce the equivalent of over 200bhp, as well as 188lb ft of instantaneous torque, allowing the car to go from 0 to 100km/h in as little as 7.8 seconds. The performance of the Niro EV ensures the driving experience is effortless, smooth, and comfortable in the trickiest of conditions.
SUVs are often used for towing, so many will be glad to hear that the Niro EV also has the capability to tow a load of up to 750kg, allowing for electric adventures to take place.
Coming with a CCS charging port as standard, Kia have designed the Niro EV to be as convenient and time efficient as possible. When using a compatible DC rapid charger, a 10 to 80 percent recharge takes just 43 minutes, allowing you to top the batteries up in the shortest of times.
Drivers will also have the option to select a charging point as their destination, and when doing so, the system will use navigation-based data to pre-heat the batteries to their optimal temperature for charging, reducing wait times when at the charging point.
The Kia Connect app can also be used for various functions, including the option to view and control the Niro EV's charging status, plan a route that incorporates charging points where required, view real-time traffic alerts, and find their nearest charging station.
The Kia Niro EV also has a handy feature named 'Vehicle-to-Device' which essentially turns the car into a portable energy source, allowing you to charge and operate devices such as a vacuum when cleaning the car, or a laptop when on an important business trip.
The All-New Kia Niro EV undoubtedly proves that a beautiful blend of form and function can be found. With its striking new looks, immersive equipment, and advanced powertrain, it's a car that implements tomorrow's technology, today.
