Introducing the New Kia Stonic

The New Kia Stonic is a sharp-looking crossover, based on the New Rio supermini, that is a smaller alternative to Kia's larger Sportage or All-New Sorento. With an eye-catching appearance and a generous level of personalisation available, this is one compact crossover that is big on character.

Interestingly, the New Stonic has been designed to offer the driving dynamics of a regular hatchback while giving you the practicality of a traditional SUV. It's not easy to perfect this blend, but Kia have made an exceptional job of it.

Inside, Kia have fitted their latest driver assistance systems and safety devices. The result is a hassle-free driving experience that gives you total peace of mind when you're on the road. With a 7-year/150,000km warranty included this is one crossover that justifies further exploration.

Design and Practicality

As practical as it is attractive, New Stonic boosts your capacity for the weekly shop or family holiday with a very generous 352-litre boot capacity. For additional storage the rear seats fold down in a 60:40 arrangement.

Sporting an ergonomic dashboard layout with a stunning 8-inch touchscreen taking centre stage, the infotainment system has a timeless yet very modern feel. The cabin itself has great headroom and the panoramic view means that your visibility is increased dramatically.

Boasting a generous legroom in the rear, passengers can enjoy access to a dedicated USB charging socket and electric windows, as standard. The low position of the transmission tunnel means that the rear can comfortably accommodate three adults for shorter journeys. There are also handy storage areas in both passenger doors.

Technology and Safety

The infotainment system offers toys such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. You also get luxuries such as air conditioning and cruise control on each model. Venture further up the range and you get rain sensing front wipers and Smart key with engine start button.

Various driver assistance systems have been introduced to maximise the safety of you and your family. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and a Reversing Camera are available. For those longer journeys, Blind Spot Collision Warning and Smart Cruise Control (available with Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) only) are perfect for motorways.

Electronic Stability Control gives greater stability and confidence-inspiring handling when you're on the move. This includes Torque-Vectoring by braking to keep you glued to the road when cornering.

Economy and Performance

Despite being a small SUV, Kia have made plenty of effort to provide engines with maximised efficiency, lowered CO2 emissions and improved driveability.

Featuring Kia's brand-new petrol Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) 'EcoDynamics+' powertrain, which combines a new 'Smartstream' 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48-volt MHEV system. Delivering the same 118bhp as the previous Stonic petrol engine but with an extra 16 per cent peak torque output on the seven-speed DCT. For maximum driver engagement, a six-speed manual transmission is also available.

A non-hybrid petrol 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 99bhp is also available in the New Stonic's engine range, with the choice of DCT or manual.

Drivers can customise their drive thanks to the Drive Mode Select System with 'Eco', 'Sport', and 'Normal' modes available to choose from.

Test drive the New Kia Stonic

Kia have done a great job with the New Stonic because it's a compact crossover that has all the driving mannerisms of a smaller car, but with the practicality of a larger SUV. It’s fun nature means you'll never struggle to find a car that reflects your personality, while the onboard technologies combine with the efficient engines to save you money and keep you safe.

3
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) 8 on the Kia Stonic comprises a radar on the front bumper and camera on the windscreen to check for upcoming hazards such as pedestrians, cyclists, or other cars. Should it detect something, it warns you and brakes automatically, if necessary, to help avoid or mitigate an accident.
4
Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) & Lane Following Assist (LFA)
This system monitors road markings and vehicles ahead, while checking whether your car is in the centre of your lane. It warns you when the vehicle may approach the boundaries of the lane and if necessary, adjusts steering to correct it and keep you centred in the lane.
5
Cruise Control
Using in-built radar, the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system can regulate both the Stonics’s speed and the distance to the car in front. If the vehicle in front slows down and the predetermined safe distance cannot be maintained, the system will reduce the speed. If the vehicle ahead picks up the pace, the Stonic accelerates up to the set speed.
6
Active Safety
Active safety features on the new Kia Stonic helps you steer clear of surprises. ABS minimises stopping distance while maximising stopping power. Electronic stability control (ESC) ensures optimum braking performance and directional control. Start on an incline is finally easy thanks to Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).
7
Reverse Parking Distance Warning (PDW)
Ideal for confident parking, PDW uses ultrasonic sensors mounted on the rear bumpers to warn of any obstacles in front or behind, when manoeuvring into a parking space.
8
Rear View Monitor (RVM)
Whenever you reverse into a parking space, the RVM will automatically display the rear view on your 8" LCD screen to give you better visibility behind your Stonic, along with dynamic guidelines to help guide you into place.
